While welding is described as a proves of melting and fusing pipe together, flanging uses a series of nuts and bolts to compress a gasket between two flanged pipe ends. Threading entails cutting cone-shaped channels into the pipe, applying thread sealant and then twisting the pipe into the threaded fitting. Grooving pipe consists of joining pipe with the ease of a coupling.
