Eighth Avenue Place
Eighth Avenue Place, a 50-story tower located in Canada, has become a landmark in the skyline of Calgary. The newly constructed tower was awarded LEED Gold precertification, and provides over 1.8 million square feet of commercial office space for the city’s growing business community.
In order to conserve schedule time the contractor, Modern Niagara Alberta, who arranged for the pipe to be cut and grooved off-site, also chose to install Victaulic product to facilitate rapid installation of the heating, chilled and condenser water, glycol heating, sanitary lift stations, and domestic water systems.
Victaulic Quick-Vic® couplings, featuring patented installation-ready technology, maximized productivity by ensuring fast and easy pipe connections for systems up to 8"/200mm in size. Due to their proven performance and life expectancy, Vic-300 MasterSeal Butterfly Valves were utilized in each system installation, and larger diameter 14 - 18"/350 - 450mm piping, including riser systems, were fabricated and joined using Victaulic Advanced Groove System (AGS) couplings and fittings.
“Victaulic mechanical couplings decreased installation time tremendously," said Doug MacDonald, Construction Manager. "A standard 18-inch weld would have taken anywhere between three to four hours to complete while the installation of one mechanical coupling took about ten minutes. Overall, by using Victaulic products, building Eighth Avenue Place required significantly less labor that would have been used if we had welded the piping systems".
Eighth Avenue Place is also one of the first buildings in Canada to utilize the Victaulic supplied TA Differential Pressure Controller. By eliminating pressure fluctuations, the TA Differential Pressure Controller enables the balancing valve to maintain the proper flow rate at the coil and keep the system balanced.
