Fort Greely Power Plant
In late 2009, construction was completed on the make-up water system at the United States Army Fort Greely Power Plant in Delta Junction, Alaska. This steam generation plant provides power to Fort Greely—a self-contained city of United States Military personnel and their families. To eliminate the risks associated with welding on site, Doyon Utilities, the engineer, chose Victaulic Pressfit for small diameter stainless steel, as well as galvanized Style 107 QuickVic installation-ready rigid couplings. The Pressfit system for ½ - 2"/15-50mm stainless steel systems installs in seconds with a handheld pressing tool, eliminating the need for hazardous fumes and flames on the jobsite; therefore, improving safety and speeding up installations. In addition, the installation-ready Style 107 QuickVic coupling, with no loose parts to drop or lose, greatly improves installation times while reducing safety risk on the initial installation, as well as for any future maintenance. Due to the installation of the stainless steel Pressfit system, installation-ready couplings and Series 763 grooved-end butterfly valves, the contractor experienced significant labor savings.
