Four Seasons Hotel
The world famous Four Seasons Hotel Park Lane London embarked on a major transformation in 2009. The project included adding a two-story extension featuring a rooftop terrace for the hotel’s new Executive Suite, and a meeting room with a 180-degree view of Hyde Park and a rooftop extension housing spa facilities. The rooms were also renovated and 53 additional guestrooms were added. After successfully completing projects with Victaulic mechanical pipe joining systems in the past, Briggs and Forrester relied on Victaulic solutions again to bring this complicated project to a good end. One of the biggest challenges in this project was the size of the plant rooms. Briggs and Forrester called upon the help of the project management skills of the Victaulic Construction Piping Services (CPS) division. The CPS division supplied them with detailed system drawings of the plant rooms and detailed bills of material, to optimize onsite material handling. Due to the confined space of the plant room, the CPS division recommended replacing the existing systems to grooved systems. This enabled Briggs and Forrester to replace the space consuming rubber bellows by three flexible Victaulic couplings, to attenuate noise and vibration. Victaulic Series 731 Suction diffusers were also employed instead of conventional strainers to save space and reduce installation time. Whilst suction pipes are traditionally kept as straight as possible, suction diffusers are able to keep the fluid from swirling after a 90° angle. Construction of the Four Seasons Hotel was successfully completed in 2010. With the help of the Victaulic CPS department, Briggs and Forrester was able to optimize onsite material handling and to overcome the space constraints in the plant room.
