GTAA Cogeneration Plant
The Greater Toronto Airport Authority’s new 117 MW cogeneration facility for Toronto Pearson International Airport opened in December 2005 to serve the electricity needs of the airport while supplying steam for heating and cooling. The plant will also produce a substantial amount of clean power that will be sold back into the province’s grid. To accommodate construction schedule constraints, the contractor took advantage of the Victaulic mechanical grooved piping system and Stainless Steel Pressfit system for small diameter lines. Both systems provided outstanding reliability while offering speed and ease of installation. With aid from the Victaulic Construction Piping Services group, the contractor was able to have 80 original project design ISO drawings converted into grooved system layouts in just 3 weeks to ensure efficient implementation.
