The Kaye Edmonton Clinic (formerly known as Edmonton Clinic South) is a 677,700 sq ft/62,895 sq m building with nine floors and a nine-story parkade. Opened in 2012, the clinic consolidated 80 outpatient clinics under one roof and now provides ambulatory services to more than one million patients every year.

Construction faced an extremely fast track schedule, with the contractor, Lockerbie & Hole, needing to install an extensive network of plumbing and HVAC piping in two mechanical rooms in just eight months. This was to ensure the building had a permanent heat supply in time for the oncoming winter.

To accomplish this feat and maximize efficiencies, Victaulic provided a total piping system solution. Victaulic's Construction Piping Services (CPS) group first designed 3D models and coordinated isometric drawings and bills of materials to ensure efficient piping layout and coordination. The investment in this value-added Victaulic service made a huge impact on meeting the deadline on the contractor's previous project - the Edmonton North Clinic.

To speed up the process, all cutting and grooving of pipe was done offsite. Using the Victaulic coordinated isometric drawings, all pipes and grooved products were itemized, ordered and delivered when and where they were needed. This allowed for automatic ordering of materials, eliminated delays for specialty items, and provided a seamless transition from delivery to assembly in the field.

In the mechanical rooms, hot and chilled water/glycol piping up to 14 inches was quickly and easily joined using Victaulic Advanced Groove System (AGS) couplings for large diameter systems and Victaulic Installation-Ready™ couplings. Victaulic also offered solutions for joining stainless steel and copper for medical gas exhaust and domestic water services. To ensure optimal building temperature, Victaulic supplied IMI TA balancing valves and nearly one thousand three-piece Victaulic Koil-Kit™ Coil Packs were installed on terminal coils. Overall, the Victaulic solution enabled the contractor to install the mechanical rooms in 30 to 50 percent less time than if they had welded the systems.
