The top 400 ft/122 m of the new penstock line is 144"/3650 mm diameter pipe and branches into a double bifurcation with three lines from 60 – 84"/1525 – 2125 mm going into the powerhouse at the falls base.

Kruger Products Biomass Gasification System
In efforts to reduce both greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs, Kruger Products, Canada’s leading paper tissue manufacturer, installed a new biomass gasification system in its mill in British Columbia. The system uses two gasifiers that convert wood residue into clean burning “syngas” which is fired directly into a boiler in place of natural gas. Process steam is then generated for multiple uses at the mill. The new system is the first of its kind in the pulp and paper industry. To join the gasification air piping for this system, Victaulic couplings (equipped with Grade L Silicone gaskets) and fittings were selected by OEM Nexterra for their ease and speed of installation and demonstrated labour savings over welding and flanging. Victaulic QuickVic installation-ready couplings, with no loose parts and no disassembly required, proved to be a time saver for joining piping under 8"/200mm. For larger diameter 16"/400mm connections, Victaulic Advanced Grooved System (AGS) couplings greatly increased productivity. Featuring a two-piece housing and only 2 bolts, AGS couplings were quickly installed and could be visually inspected to ensure proper installation. As a result, the piping for the system was efficiently installed and will provide Kruger Products with easy access for maintenance moving forward.
