Victaulic Case Studies
Manitoba Hydro Place
The Manitoba Hydro Place head office in downtown Winnipeg defines the next generation of sustainable buildings. This LEED Platinum 22-story building features 690,000 square feet (64,100 square metres) of floor space and is designed to be one of the most energy-efficient buildings of its size in North America, consuming an unprecedented 60% less energy than a typical large office tower. Facing a tight schedule and shortage of labour, the contractor was able to significantly increase piping system installation productivity by using Victaulic grooved couplings, valves, pump components and fittings. The ease and speed of installation of such products as the QuickVic Style 107 installation-ready coupling, with no loose parts and no disassembly required, was paramount. When joining the domestic water system, Victaulic provided the ability to transition from small diameter copper to lightwall stainless pipe for the larger 4-8"/100-200mm lines -- an innovative solution that provided additional cost savings. Building heating and cooling is controlled by the largest geothermal system in Manitoba consisting of 280 wells located under the building. The use of Victaulic Series 787 TA Circuit Balancing Valves on the wells ensured precise flow measurement and system balancing. Additionally, Victaulic coil components made terminal coil installation quick and easy.
