Marina Bay Sands Resort and Casino
Owned by the Las Vegas Sands, the Marina Bay Sands Resort is billed as the world's most expensive, stand-alone casino property costing a total of US$5.5 billion. The resort features three 55-story hotel towers with 2,560 rooms, a casino, a convention center, a theater, a museum and a retail mall. The hotel towers are topped with a 340-meter-long SkyPark, featuring the world's largest public cantilevered platform. With an estimated annual revenue of over US$1 billion per year, engineers and contractors were expected to complete the project on time.
In addition to a compressed project schedule, the engineers and contractors faced various engineering challenges due to the complexity of the building design. On certain sections, the hotel towers slope at a 26 degree angle. Victaulic products were chosen to provide a fast and reliable piping solution. Victaulic flexible couplings and expansion joints were utilized on the chilled water risers to accommodate piping offset and thermal movement, and Victaulic Firelock® couplings and fittings were used throughout the building's fire protection system.
