Methodist Sugar Land Hospital
In September 2008, Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, located in Sugar Land, Texas, opened a $300-million expansion to its facility—more than tripling the number of beds and doubling its operating space. The expansion utilized progressive construction methods, including innovative installation of the piping systems, resulting in a modern facility built efficiently and on time. To beat the tight construction schedule, as well as minimally effect the operations of the hospital, MLN Company, the contractor, chose the Victaulic grooved mechanical piping system for the HVAC and plumbing systems throughout the expansion. In addition, MLN Company worked with the Victaulic Construction Piping Services (CPS) division to provide project management and coordination, as well as to assist in including mechanical joining project drawings and to reduce material handling on site through its “bag and tag” services.
For fast installation, MLN Company decided to install the Victaulic Advanced Groove System (AGS) on the overhead distribution piping. Designed specifically for large diameter piping systems 14-60"/350-1525mm, the unique design of the AGS product line features a two-piece housing and requires only two bolts for assembly. In addition, MLN Company installed the patented Style 107 QuickVic installation-ready coupling which installs up to ten times faster than other pipe joining methods. Furthermore, with no loose parts to drop or lose, the installation-ready coupling provides safer installations with reduced risk exposure throughout the job. “I’ve used Victaulic for more than 20 years, and I know that my installation time will be reduced by up to 30 percent,’ said Stan Whitfill, Vice President of MLN Company.
