Owen Sound Hospital

The Owen Sound Hospital was built in 1984 with Victaulic products used to join many of the original piping systems. In January 2010, the hospital undertook a new project to add cooling capacity that included larger cooling towers, chillers and piping systems. The project faced a tight timeline as these new systems had to be installed and operational by the end of April to be ready for the summer season. The contractor, JMR Electric faced a number of challenges with this project in addition to the fast track schedule. Because the hospital would remain occupied during construction it was essential that the contractor take into consideration the flames and fumes associated with welding and its affect on the hospital's patients. With the above considerations in mind, JMR was determined to keep costs down and get the job done with fewer crew members. Having successfully tried Victaulic products on a few recent jobs, they decided to put Victaulic to the test on this hospital project where time was of the essence. A complete line of Victaulic products were installed on the chilled water system and the condenser water system including couplings, valves and Tour and Andersson balancing valves. Victaulic Style 99 Roust About couplings were installed to tie into the existing condenser water line. With Victaulic already in place on the original systems, expanding and tying into the piping system was very easy. No fumes or need to weld ensured minimal disruption to the hospital and with the increased productivity from using Victaulic, the project was completed on schedule.
