Vancouver Convention Centre
The Vancouver Convention Centre is one of the largest convention centres in Canada and will serve as the international broadcast centre for the 2010 Olympic and ParaOlympic Winter Games. In preparation for the games, a new expansion designed to LEED Gold standards was constructed in an effort to triple the available space. Given the magnitude of the Olympic games, scheduling and on time completion of this expansion project were paramount. Joining the 18"/450mm chilled and condenser water piping was simplified by using the complete system of Victaulic Advanced Groove System (AGS) couplings, valves and fittings. Featuring a 2-piece design and only 2 bolts, AGS couplings significantly improved productivity on the job compared to welding or flanging and enabled the contractor to pre-fabricate large diameter headers on the mechanical room floor saving countless hours. For domestic water piping, the Style 607 QuickVic installation-ready coupling for copper, with no disassembly required and no loose bolts, enabled miles of 2-4"/50-100mm piping to be rapidly installed. In addition, the use of Victaulic pump components and Style 77 flexible couplings eliminated costly flex connectors and provided a superior level of noise and vibration attenuation.
