The opportunity of better.
This was the theme of Autodesk University 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. Those who attended can attest to the passion in Autodesk’s CEO Andrew Anagost’s keynote address which emphasized how better knowledge and better insights will result in better outcomes. He focused his monologue on automation and modularization in construction, and how access to information across all specialties and trades will achieve better results.
We left Anagost’s 2018 AU keynote excited and empowered, but we also asked how.
“How will we achieve this idealistic result of the opportunity of better when we are still faced with the same design challenges, the same timelines, and the same amount of work when we get back to our offices?”
Poole and Kent Makes AU2018 Theme a Reality
The MEP and Structural: Today into the Future keynote presentation clearly answered this question. Specifically, this keynote highlighted a project called 414 Light Street in Baltimore, MD. This building, which happens to be the tallest residential building in Maryland, originally had a 65-day turnaround on the mechanical room. The contractor, Poole and Kent, needed better knowledge and better insights to meet this expedited timeline. They chose to use Autodesk software to allow for expedited preconstruction, and Victaulic catalog items to remove excess labor from the job site. The use of enhanced technology and modularization allowed them to complete the mechanical room in 50 days, 15 days earlier than their anticipated completion.

Poole and Kent chose to use industry-leading software and modularization to expedite their build schedule.
