Microsoft, the multinational technology giant from the United States, is making its largest investment in Taiwan by building its first cloud-computing data center in Taoyuan, which will serve as the Azure Asia operating hub. Thanks to early project involvement, rapid feedback to customer needs, and outstanding product benefits, Victaulic team succeed in offering the complete fire protection system solutions for the project, including sprinkler heads, butterfly valves, gate valves, deluge and pre-action valves, couplings and fittings.
The project presented significant challenges, requiring a partner who can complete construction quickly and deliver a complete fire protection system. Victaulic grooved solution leveraged its key advantages: allowing easy, reliable connections without hot or disassembly works, ensuring rapid and high-quality project delivery. The uniform grooved connections throughout the system offer great convenience for daily operation and routine maintenance, eliminating the need for re-welding, and minimizing equipment downtime. To further enhance the system’s lifecycle and reliability, the entire fire protection system is filled with nitrogen. Victaulic FireLock NXT™ Series 769N Preaction System Check Valve, equipped with a Potter nitrogen generator, operates at a minimum air pressure of only 13 psi (90kPa) – significantly lower than the Taiwanese market average of 40 psi (276 kPa) for similar products. This design effectively reduces corrosion caused by compressed air in the fire piping network, resulting in a high safety and energy-efficient system that sharply cuts operational costs for both the owner and contractors.
The early involvement enabled us to provide expert suggestions and customized solutions during the design phase. The robust distribution network with adequate inventory in Taiwan ensured timely product availability. Throughout the project lifecycle, technical support was readily provided to the construction team. “With such a tight installation timeline, we proactively built-up inventory with our distributors and airfreighted required products to minimize delays,” the Victaulic Sales Engineer said, “When some styles faced certification gaps, we rapid submitted the documentation and secured approvals ahead of schedule – that agility kept the project on track.”
By avoiding welding processes, Victaulic’s 2½ – 8” fire protection system solution contributed to at least 30% cost savings for the Microsoft Taiwan data center project. Meanwhile, construction timelines were significantly shortened, ensuring on-time delivery. This market-proven solution has garnered high praise from both the owner and the general contractor.
