A “New” View of AWWA M11

Posted on July 6, 2017

AWWA ACE 2017 was filled with exciting committee meetings and game-changing discussions. This year’s M11 meeting was no exception, with conversations buzzing about innovative solutions to the traditional M11 harness and bolted sleeve coupling installations. Victaulic’s committee members, including Christian Sundberg and Wayne Biery, showcased one of these new innovations, the Style W257 Dynamic Movement Joint. This preassembled unit, comprised of Style W77 AGS flexible couplings and pre-engineered pipe spools, is built to accommodate for up to 4’’ of differential settlement, thermal and seismic movement.  The joint is designed for direct burial with stainless steel hardware and AWWA complaint epoxy coating to reduce corrosion and maintenance throughout the life of the system.  What sets this joint apart from traditional installations is that it is a self-restraining joint. The assembly can be installed with just two bolt pad connections, no M11 harness required.  See how it works here:

The Style W257 is just one example of the many new and innovative technologies being added to AWWA each year. We look forward to seeing what the 2018 conference has in store for us. Viva Las Vegas!
