In 1990, Jupiter Utilities created a reverse osmosis (RO) program in an effort to create a safer, more environmentally friendly water utility. The nanofiltration water treatment plant, which is one of the largest brackish water desalination programs in the United States, is capable of producing over 7% of the current average daily supply by desalination.

In 2011, the Town of Jupiter Utilities replaced the older conventional lime softening water treatment facility with the implementation of the nanofiltration treatment. In this process, nanofiltration utilizes advanced membrane treatment technologies to remove undesirable dissolved constituents and utilizes the fresh shallow aquifer as its supply. The plant will produce 30 million gallons of water a day for the residents of Jupiter and surrounding unincorporated areas.

During the facility upgrades, Poole & Kent installed several Victaulic stainless steel solutions throughout the facility. Victaulic couplings, fittings, and valves were utilized on piping systems such as the cartridge water filter, compressed air, plant air, and plant utility water that comprised the reverse osmosis system. Additionally, Aerex utilized Victaulic’s stainless steel solutions on the fabricated equipment that they provided for the project.

The installation of the Victaulic products was environmentally friendly and did not expose workers to the hazardous fumes or other risks associated with joining stainless steel pipe using other pipe joining methods. The solutions that Victaulic provided to the Jupiter Nanofiltration Water Treatment Plant not only helped to mitigate risk with the stakeholders but also provided them with confidence in the long-term reliability of their piping systems.
