When looking for a solution to join an eight kilometer long, 400-450mm/16-18″ sized carbon steel pipe, transporting water from a dam to the Fraser Alexander mine dumps, Gold One International Limited relied on Victaulic solutions.
Since Fraser Alexander only could begin reclaiming the mine dumps as soon as the pipeline was installed, it was of the utmost importance for Gold One that the project could be completed in a very short time frame. By employing Victaulic Style W77
flexible and Style W07 rigid Advance Grooved System (AGS) couplings, contactor, Mocke Pipeline Constructions, could install 25 to 30 pipe spools a day – almost triple the amount of when using flanging. Victaulic W77 flexible couplings were installed
to adhere to the rough terrain. Because of the very high theft rate in the region, the Victaulic product management and engineering team designed special cups that encase the coupling’s bolts and nuts to prevent theft.
By using Victaulic AGS couplings to join this large diameter pipeline, Gold One was assured of a speedy installation. Using Victaulic products also proved to be the ideal solution to avoid theft and to ease material handling and accommodate system deflection due to the rough terrain.
